Mainland China surpasses Japan to become the world's second largest PCB production area

China has long been a big manufacturing country. In the PCB field, with the overall trend of the global PCB industry shifting to Asia, China has already become the world's largest PCB producing country. If it is further subdivided, before the 18 years ago, according to the annual output value, the top three regions will be China Taiwan, Japan and then China. But now the statistics of 18 years have come out. According to statistics, mainland China has surpassed Japan to become the world's second largest PCB production area.

According to Digitimes, according to statistics from Prismark, Taiwan's total PCB output value in 2018 is 62.4 billion US dollars, accounting for 31.3% of the world's largest market share, while mainland China accounts for 23%, more than Japan's 20% market share. , become the world's second largest PCB production area.

In addition, as of the end of 2018, 13 of the world's top 30 PCB manufacturers were from Taiwan, and five of the top ten rankings came from Taiwan. They are Yuding Technology, Xinxing Electronics, Huatong Computer, Jianding Technology and Haoyu Bode. These manufacturers are engaged in a slightly different range of PCB applications, and their customers are mostly first-line brand suppliers in different fields.

Although only three of the top 30 are from mainland China, they have achieved considerable revenue growth this year. These three are Dongshan Precision, Shennan Circuit and Jingwang Electronics.

Among them, as the world's largest PCB manufacturer, the company has expanded its gap with the second-place Japanese flag to more than 1 billion US dollars. The company is currently leading the way in PCB (SLP) technology for flexible circuit boards and similar substrates, and has also completed the deployment of rigid-flex board, IC substrate and COF substrate.

Both Xinxing Electronics and Huatong Computer have been deeply deployed in the PCB of mobile phones and consumer electronics products. Their 2018 revenues have suffered a large decline due to poor sales in the end consumer market.

On the mainland side, Dongshan Precision created more than $1 billion in revenue in two years through the acquisition of US FPCB manufacturer Mflex and Hong Kong PCB assembler Multek. In addition, due to the strong demand for PCB shipments from 5G base stations by major customers such as Huawei and ZTE, the revenue of Shennan Circuit in 2018 increased by 36% year-on-year.

In contrast, Japan’s largest PCB manufacturer, Qisheng’s revenue in 2018, fell 14.4% year-on-year, mainly due to the decline in FPCB products. And, in fact, among the major FPCB manufacturers in Japan, only Fujikura achieved positive growth in 2018.

Nippon Mektron, Fujikura, Ibiden, Meiko and Sumitomo Denko, the top five PCB manufacturers in Japan, except Meiko as the only pure PCB manufacturer, are just making PCB manufacturing part of their business. They often lag behind pure PCB manufacturers in technology development and capacity expansion, so they are losing market in the PCB industry because PCB manufacturing is an increasingly capital- and technology-intensive industry. However, Japanese manufacturers have performed strongly in providing PCBs to their country's automakers.
