The Application of Rigid-flex PCB

Rigid-flex PCB is a new type of printed circuit board that combines the durability of rigid PCB with the adaptability of flexible PCB. In all types of PCB, rigid-flex PCB is the most resistant to harsh applications, therefore is favored by industrial control, medical, military equipment manufacturers, and mainland enterprises are gradually increasing the proportion of rigid-flex PCB to the overall output.


1. Industrial Use - Industrial use includes rigid-flex PCB boards used in industrial, military and medical applications. Most industrial parts require precise, safe, and non-destructive properties. Therefore, the characteristics required for rigid-flex PCB boards are: high reliability, high precision, low impedance loss, complete signal transmission quality, and durability. However, because of the high complexity of the process, the amount of output is small and the unit price is quite high.


2. Mobile phone - the common application of rigid-flex PCB board in the mobile phone: folding places (Hinge), video module (camera module), button (keypad) and RF module (RF Module).

3. Consumer Electronics - In consumer products, DSC and DV are representative of the development of rigid-flex PCB boards, which can be divided into two major axes of performance and structure. In terms of performance, the rigid-flex PCB boards can be connected to different PCB rigid boards and components in a three-dimensional manner, so the total use area of the PCB can be increased under the same line density, which can relatively increase the circuit load capacity and reduce the signal transmission limit of the contacts and assembly error rate. On the other hand, since the rigid-flex PCB boards are light and thin, the wiring can be flexed, which is substantial for reducing the volume and the weight.


4. Automobiles - the common use of rigid-flex PCB boards in automobiles: buttons for connecting the motherboard on the steering wheel, the connection between the video system screen and the control panel of the car, the operation connection of the audio or function keys on the side doors, and the reversing radar image system, sensors (including air quality, temperature and humidity, special gas adjustment, etc.), vehicle communication systems, satellite navigation, rear seat control panel and front controller connection board, off-board detection system, etc.
